Froodvale beat (middle)

From Llandeilo take the B4302 for Talley (approx 7.5 miles, carry on through Talley to Crugybar (3.5 miles) on the outskirts of Crugybar turn left towards Llansawel and Glanyranell park Hotel drive for a mile, crossing the river Cothi then turn Right.Drive for approximately 0.8 miles the road curves to the left and there is a farm drive on the right marked Llys Cothi and Murmur y Nant take this track to the very end and park considerately in the farmyard Usually to your right next to the small grey corrugated iron shed.

Walk back the lane 300 yards and use the style on your left to access the middle of the beat or use the gate to the right of the style to access the field – follow the river down (two fields to access the bottom end of the beat via the style.

Depending on weather the Cothi here has runs of sea trout from early summer onwards, wild brown trout fishing is good throughout the season with this beat holding the club record brown trout of 4 pounds nine ounces.

Sea trout and salmon are prolific late season after moderate spates.

Most of the beat affords good open pools for fly fishing, and when sea trout are in the river night fishing is successful

Froodvale beat top end and Gwargorof

Instead of turning into Llyscothi farm drive continue on this road for a further mile past Froodvale farm you will come to a bridge over the river. Park on layby either side of the bridge.Alternatively instead of turning off the B4302 at Crugybar continue through the village until you reach the Bridgend Inn (approx 1 mile) and turn left onto the A 482 signposted Pumsaint (TURNING RIGHT HERE WILL TAKE YOU 7 MILES BACK TO LLANWRDA AND THE TIRALLEN BEAT OF THE TOWY).Carry on the Pumsaint road from the Bridgend Inn for half a mile and turn left towards Ty Brazil, past Cothi Fencing supplies and you will reach the bridge over the Cothi (0.4 miles)

Downstream for the first field we have permission from the landowner to fish, from there down is C.G.M.D. water with good holding pools for both salmon and sea trout.

Upstream the Gwargorof  beat starts 50 yards upstream on the left. we can access this beat from any point on Gwargorof land which is on the left hand side (you are permitted to walk through the farmyard – there is a lane behind the house which leads to the river) but please leave your car by the bridge or near the farm drive entrance (about 110 yards back up the hill) getting to the lower part of the beat from the track is possible but be aware it is steep and wooded. This beat is especially good but challenging for late season sea trout.
